Maybe we all have the desire to break free from the grid but are just too afraid to stand up and say it.

Dundee's One Big Posty Gathering AKA Radio1's One Big Weekend Gig

Brought to you in assocation with: YOUR LOCAL POSTY

This weekend Dundee will see the delightful gathering of bands such as Snow Patrol, Keane and Muse at that lovely park gifted to THE PEOPLE OF DUNDEE some years ago, CAMPERDOWN PARK. Special guests include EBAY TOUTS, selected DUNDEE POSTIES and of course any one who works for RADIO ONE. Those lucky folks in Glasgow and Inverness are being treated to a BIG SCREEN in the city centre whilst the lovely people of Dundee can enjoy views of some crappy fountains and NO BIG SCREEN WHATSOEVER. And if you're hoping that something big like this will come again to Dundee sometime soon - then stop hoping. Dundee never sees events on this scale. This will be the first and the last. Once again Dundee has been shat on from a large height. ENJOY!!!

POSTMAN PAT SAYS - "HAVE A NICE DAY FOLKS - I KNOW I WILL!"

BUT WAIT...there is hope after all...and it comes in the form of...

ONE BIG PARTY

For all those without a ticket (so that's roughly 90% of Dundee) all is not lost - several people are planning a LEGAL mini-protest party next to the 'Posty Gathering Gig'. You can access the site via Couper Angus Road, which is the Golfers access. Please view here the proposed site. Joe Public is allowed entry to this part of the park on the day. The golf course and the zoo are still open this weekend. The mini-gig is being discussed here on Radio 1's Message Boards (M in the Park thread). For more information and latest updates click here on the One Big Party Board (Organising thread).
Please circulate this URL and let the people of Dundee know what's really happening this weekend!!! Please sign the petition here and let Radio 1 know how pissed you are. Look out for flyers which are currently being distributed. (View here) We realise this has already been given local press coverage and would like to stress this is strictly a peaceful PARTY - please don't come if you want to disrupt the main event. Take your acoustic guitars and your plaquards, Postman Pat outfits optional. Camperdown Park is not owned by the council, it is owned by the people of Dundee - it is a PUBLIC park so refusing the public access is illegal. So come along for the crack, but please, be warned...strictly no posty-bashing allowed.

Why haven't Edith and Colin even mentioned the fact that tickets have gone missing?! Could it be that they are that far up their own arses they don't care that people have been cheated?

great blog. I AM AGAINST THE ROYAL MAIL CONSPITACY THEORY HOWEVER I DO CONCEDE DUNDEE HAVE BEEN SHAT ON FROM A GREAT HEIGHT IE NO BIG SCREENS OR EVENTS FOR ANYONE UNFORTUNTATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A DD POSTCODE. R1 MADE SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT HOW THEY WERE BRINGING GREAT BANDS TO THE GREAT UNWASHED INSTEAD OF PICKING SOMEWHERE OBVIOUS LIKE EDINBURGH OR GLASGOW BUT THE REALITY IS THEY WERE TOO SCARED TO MAKE IT A MAINLY DUNDEE EVENT HENCE THE REASON IF YOU LIVE IN GLASGOW OR EDINBURGH YOU HAD MORE CHANCE OF GETTING A TICKET .

lol didn't mean to breach any copyright issues there. I didn't do the flyer, the guy organising this thing did, apparetnly there are hundreds interested in going to the gig. Should be even more by the time the flyers go out, so you may be seeing your pic again. It's also on flickr, which is where i pinched it from.

"Economic Development were all given tickets". Untrue. Partner works for them. None of them were, even ones who directly helped on organising with Radio 1. The COONCILLORS were given 100 pairs between them. Anyone else remember the alternative festival in Baxter Park on the day of Charles & Di's wedding?

just read an article fron dundee city council saying that sunderlands economy made a whopping 13 million over their weekend!!!- the Dundee city council has stitched us up good and proper . Think about it - we the Dundee people would have just went and not spend very much (as we have houses to stay in ect )At the end of the article it says Dundee city council cant see why dundee economy cant reach a similar figure- i think we should all with hold a months council tax to make them see that we are not happy-- BASICALLY THE ATRICLE MORE OR LESS STATES THAT THE COUNCIL KNEW THAT THE TICKETS WERE GOING TO DRAW PEOPLE (AND MONEY INTO DUNDEE)

It's so easy to blame everybody else for not getting your tickets! Royal Mail and Radio 1! But lets be honest, it's a national lottery with aover 300,000 people entering from all over the country and dundee having a population of about 147,000!! And like the council said Sunderland made over 13 million last year! So just think who is really stiching you up!! I entered to win tickets and i didn't win tough shit! I'll get over it! If thats the way you lot are thinking you had better not buy a lottery ticket! The mind boggles to think what would happen if you parted with a pound and didn't win!! If Dundee was to get so many tickets why wasn't there a ballot for the residents of Dundee then! Who said the residents of Dundee had won 20,000 tickets anyway? I thought if didn't win you would not get contacted! So why does everybody think their tickets have been stolen! And by the looks of it, it's all chinese whispers, about posties nicking the tickets, cause they are an easy target! I could understand your points if you had paid out money for the tickets but you didn't! So i suggest you fire up the bbq and listen to it all on your radio in your back garden, and it will be easier to go for a piss too!! And even if you did go you probably would all moan about the crowds, the loud music, and all the people in your town!

Oh dear. Clearly you have no clue about the real situation here. 300,000 applicants does not equate to 300,000 people, as everyone I know applied multiple times, some even hundreds and people on related message boards are saying exactly the same. Less than half the tickets went to Dundee and its surrounding area (Radio1's Stats - see their updated FAQ on website). This is obviously not the promised 'majority' so reason No1 to be hacked off. Changing the ticket allocation to a ballot was an unfair system primarily to the people who listen to R1, true fans of the bands appearing and people really desperate to go to the gig. Subsequently 'abody and their granny' applied as virtually no effort was required, and several I know who got tickets aren't even bothered about going and are only going because it's free. Meanwhile you have thousands who are left bitterly disappointed who desperately wanted to go. And I'm not even going to start on the Ebay touts, I think that speaks for itself. Perhaps if the tickets had been allocated on a queuing system, only dedicated fans would have got tickets and far fewer people would have been left disappointed. I certainly would have queued - I camped out overnight to go see Oasis in Loch Lomond and I'd do it again! So a new and unfair system, reason No2 to be hacked off. Regarding the posty allegations, it is a known fact at least two have been suspended after being caught with tickets - read the press or the news to update yourself. Also I know of 7 seperate occasions were people were approached by post workers with SEVERAL tickets for sale. One posty had over 20 pairs. Several people are also reporting that their posty has been replaced. So, that's reason No3 to be a hacked off. As for the council making money, well obviously. Any event on this scale will bring in the cash, which is why people don't understand why they didn't put up a big screen in our centre... so reason No4. Nobody was contacted to confirm they were winners, making the system open to fraud from postal workers. And actually it was Radio One who said Dundee would get the 'clear majority' of tickets (roughly 20,000??). Why wasn't there a ballot for Dundee? Good idea, suggest it to Radio One. As for your ridiculous comments about if I did go I would moan about the crowds, loud music etc - go take a look at my Mr Flag at T in The Park post will you. Crowds and loud music is exactly want we DO want you fruitcake. Clearly you have no idea about the spirit and the atmosphere of the Dundee people, our huge student population, our love of all things music and our utter delight that something as fantastic as the One Big Weekend was happening in our city. No one cares about the noise and the people, not even the grannies! Seriously, do you think Dundee is a wee fishing village or something? Maybe you've been watching too much Balamory and think every town in Scotland is the same. Get a grip! I think I speak for everyone when I say that the genuine music lovers of Dundee who will never see Radio1 come to their town again feel utterly let down by the whole system.

Hope that has made things a little clearer.
